Whitney Museum hosting Free Friday Nights shows curated by Public Records (Laraaji, more)

As part of their Free Friday Nights series, NYC’s Whitney Museum of American art will host free music performances on select Fridays this summer. The shows are curated by Brooklyn’s Public Records and there are currently three lined up: bassoonist and composer Joy Guidry on July 12; ambient legend Laraaji on July 19; and percussion duo NOMON on August 9.
Free Friday Nights at the Whitney are from 5-10 PM and music performances are at 7:30. This is also a good opportunity to check out

Miami rap duo City Girls may be no more, but bothJT and Yung Miami are staying busy on their own. JT just announced her debut solo mixtape, City Cinderella, due out on July 19 via Quality Control Music/Motown, and she also announced a Brooklyn showhappening on August 3 at Kings Theatre.

NYFD responds to fire at Brooklyn Made concert venue

According to multiple reports and a livestream on the Citizen app, the building that houses Bushwick music venue Brooklyn Made (428 Troutman St) is on fire. The latest update on the Citizen app reads, “Firefighters have completed secondary searches with no findings. Squad and rescue units are being released. Ryuichi Sakamoto’s ‘Opus’ film of final performance streaming on Criterion Channel; album out in August

Composer and Yellow Magic Orchestra co-founder Ryuichi Sakamoto passed away in March 2023 at the age of 71. Before he died, he worked with filmmaker Neo Sora on Opus, a solo piano performance film featuring music from throughout his career. The film played in theaters earlier this year and will be streaming via Criterion Channel on June 30 at 8 PM Eastern. There’s also a companion album which will be out August 9 via Milan Records.
